The experiment commences…

Frances sits in a lab and pushes a button every one hundred and forty four seconds. She’s not quite sure what the button does, what mysterious stimuli it delivers to the cage, but she sits there anyway. And pushes the button. And pushes the button. Should she be pushing this button?

The lab rats find themselves falling through a bizarre collection of administered stimuli and coincidences. Lightning strikes, jelly wobbles, and rats are whacked over the head with crockery. They bicker amongst themselves and wonder what is on the outside, outside of this cage they are contained in. Is there more than this?

The Lab Rat by Rhiannon Petersen was commissioned by The Midnite Youth Theatre Company in January 2017.  The first production toured the UK in January 2018 and performed a season a Perth season in February 2018.
